Day 9 Party

What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010? Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans.

The best party I went to this year wasn’t exactly just one party, but really a whole weekend of parties.  It was the weekend before my 18th birthday and my best friend, Sabrina, decided to throw a party.  It wasn’t officially dubbed “Zoë’s Birthday Party” but everyone who showed up wished me a good one.  But that wasn’t the beginning of the night for us.  We first went to a local cafe to see our friend’s band play.  While there we witnessed a good amount of drama between friends and friends’ boyfriends and it was an interesting show to say the least.  Sabrina was invited people over to her house for a few drinks and off we went.

We got back the her house and began to party.  There was plenty of booze, music and a friend brought along his hookah, which was a pleasant surprise.  It was nice to be with most of my friends at once in an energetic environment like that.  We later pulled out the brownie mix in Sabrina’s pantry and made some brownies, which were actually undercooked but still delicious.  Later in the night someone put some wacky tobaccy in the hookah and just about everyone was feeling good.  Eventually the party died down and we all went to sleep.

The next morning I had to wake up early to go to Monterey with my dad.  He had told me that he wanted to see the campus and we had scheduled a tour.  It was fun showing him around.  Afterward we went to my aunt’s house in Santa Cruz to say hey.  When we finally began heading home I was beyond ready to take a nap.

We get back to our house and the first thing I notice is that all the lights are off and it’s unusually quiet, with the exception of Bob Dylan playing on my mom’s ipod.  The next thing I notice is the giant “Happy Birthday” banner hanging on the wall.  Next thing I knew, nearly everyone who had been at Sabrina’s the night before and my family jumped out and shouted “SURPRISE!”

Turns out my dad only wanted to get me out of the house, and Sabrina threw the party the night before so that I wouldn’t suspect a surprise party, which I wouldn’t have anyway.  My mom, Hollie, and Sabrina had been planning this party since December!  I was shocked!  Needless to say, it was a great weekend!
